Yeah... I'd like to put some LED's in for those DRL's.
Other solution is to back the parking brake cables off, a little looser, and run your parking brake in the 1st engagement notch, making sure your rear brakes aren't dragging. I did that a lot on my 98 jetta. It does work on my Jan 2012 build SE model.

Try the second method, with the hand brake, mid page 140 "Daytime Running Lights Parking Feature".
I believe the second method, the instructions are reversed. Hand brake up one half a notch shuts off the running lights on mine with the ignition on. Hand brake completely down turns them on, when the ignition is in the on position. I get nothing with using the turn indicator method. Mid January 2012 build here.

Tried the procedure in the owners manual without success. It's not quite clear is back is toward the driver (back of vehicle) or away from back from driver. And does ignition on mean start engine or just key to run? And how does KESSY affect that?
More experimenting to come. If I get it, I'll post more clear directions.
Usually ignition means just turn it on but don't start the car. This was an issue I had with the TPS reset. If you try to reset the TPS with the car running it doesn't work, it only works if the ignition is on but the car is not running.

The manual for the 2012 Jetta outlines the same procedure to disable the drls but it does not work on the north American models because the drls are hard wired, not controlled by the computer. Not even the parking break will switch them off. The only way to disable (on the Jetta at least) is to modify the headlight switch by physically removing the "TFL" pin.

Am I the only one here that thinks this is a bad idea? Why would you compromise the brake system?

As opposed to pulling it up a long ways to engage the first notch, only to find that your rear brakes are dragging to keep your DRL's turned off?
Take your pick, I would feel comfortable pulling my hand brake up 5 notches instead of 4 with a little slack added to not have to have DRL's on.

Niner, are you saying one notch up on the handbrake doesn't cause a warning in the MFD?

Anyone done it on the 2012 Passat? Same as any other late model VW?
Please keep the politics and opinions of whether one should vs how to do it to yourselves.
On my 01BMW M Roadster I actually added DRL's. this required me to change the module for the high beams, the part I had to purchase came from canada because the US did not require it. I don't know of that helps but it might be a start... Just have to ask... why would you want to remove them?

Love the euro switch just dont be like on of the guys who keep the rear fogs on... I super dumb to drive behind especially when its not foggy. In the EU you get high beamed for that. Here people have no idea what it for.
On that note I think I will purchase one for my car

That's the politics I want to avoid here. Let's just stick to I don't like them and am not required by any legal means to have them.
I found a valid reason why you would disable the DRL's
watch this Video (warning its kind of long)

Disable your DRL in the VAGcom
let me know if it works

I may have to get my dad to buy that. I'd rather have my fogs on during the day as my DRL's than the OEM DRL's, just a personal opinion. Thanks dachman1!

If you go and find someone with a VCDS Hex can cable, you can have them long code the DRL's to the "diabled' condition. There are some hidden "goodies" in the latest updated version of VCDS. We could not get the windows to operate with the KeyFob today, but it's showing as being possible in VCDS... time will tell if the guys over there find the code to make it happen.
