Traditionally, Robert Craig has done a brilliant job with their selection from Mount Veeder, and the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder (80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot) shows that haunting blueberry, raspberry, black raspberry and floral notes that seem feature of that AVA. A dense ruby/imperial color, beautifully sweetness purity, full-bodied opulence with a layered mouthfeel also as sweet tannin make for some other dandy 2013 that can exist drunk young or cellared for 20-25 years.
The spices and fresh herbs come up through the cool fruit here. Hints of sugariness tobacco. Full body, silky tannins and a juicy end. A delicious red with lots of character and tone. Attractive at present but meliorate in 2020.
This wine's dense richness is restrained by the cool, foresty sense of its Mt. Veeder origins. Information technology'due south almost over the top with plumped-upwards tannins and the vanillin of oak. Just all that push is pulled back past mountain-grown freshness. For the cellar. (ane,100 cases)

Robert Craig Winery showcases iv Cabernet Sauvignons produced from Napa Valley mountain and hillside vineyards, including Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate vineyard, Analogousness, a archetype Bordeaux-style Cabernet, and powerhouse Cabernets from Mount Veeder and Jump Mountain. Each vino conveys a unique personality derived from the soils, climate and varietal characteristics of the growing region. Robert Craig has been a pioneer in mountain vineyard development for over 30 years. During the 1980s, he directed vineyard and winery development on Mountain Veeder. Robert Craig wines debuted in 1992. The winery facility is located at 2300 anxiety atop Howell Mountain, with a Tasting Salon in Downtown Napa.
Centered at the elevation for which it is named, Mount Veeder is Napa's largest sub-AVA. But even though the entire appellation spreads over 16,000 acres, vineyards embrace a mere 1,000. Scattered among Douglas firs and bristlecone pines, Mount Veeder vineyards extend south from the upper elevations of the Mayacamas Mountains—the highest point at ii,400 feet—to the edge of the Carneros region. Less than 25 wineries produce wine from Mount Veeder fruit.
Winemaking began early in this appellation. In 1864, Captain Stelham Wing presented the starting time Mount Veeder wine to the Napa County Fair; information technology came from today'south Fly Coulee Vineyard. Prohibition, of course, halted winemaking and viticulture wasn't revitalized until the founding of Mayacamas Vineyards in 1951 and Bernstein Vineyards in 1964.
The Bernstein Vineyards was actually home to the kickoff Petit Verdot in California, planted in 1975. Today about of the Petit Verdot in Napa Valley originates from this vineyard.
Rocky volcanic clay and ancient seabed matter dominate Mount Veeder soils—perfect for Bordeaux varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot enjoy spectacular success. These varieties produce wines rich in brambly blackberry and black cherry fruit with herbal and floral aromatics. Structures are moderate to believing and wines have great staying power.
Chardonnay from Mount Veeder is lush, full and counterbalanced mineral and fresh citrus flavors.
A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the world, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where information technology is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, 'Cab' is responsible for some of the globe's nearly prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after "cult" wines. Somm Hole-and-corner—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was built-in from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
